Goal Setting

Stores have New Year gear out on display and Facebook sent me a 2018 video, so I guess it’s officially time to start thinking about 2019!  I have actually already started working on my New Year’s resolutions.  Whether or not you are a fan of New Year’s resolutions, I believe it’s so important to frequently take time to reflect on life and set goals for yourself.  For me, the New Year is just an extra reminder to do this.  Self-reflection and goal setting helps you be the best version of you possible.

As you think about what you want to accomplish this coming year, I hope that you dream big and ignore any negative self-talk.  Believe in yourself!  Think about what you want to improve in your life and focus on how you can make small changes that will lead you to where you want to be.  For example, if you want to stress less, what are small changes you can make in your daily routine?  Perhaps, you can start by taking 5 minutes each day to meditate.  Sometimes one small change goes a long way.

When I set New Year’s resolutions, I write specific goals with action steps, create positive mantras, and include visuals.  I keep this in a place I will see it every day, so that I always remember my resolutions and how I will get there.  It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by your goals, especially if you set too many goals.  Remember to take the time to reflect for a while before goal setting so that you are focused and know what it is that you truly want.  You are more likely to achieve your goals if you are really committed to them.

As I reflect on 2018, I know it’ll be a year I will always remember.  2018 brought me the best day of my life, the day I married my love.  🙂  For my 2018 New Year’s resolutions, I came up with a theme: The Year of Love.  My resolution was to love myself and others more, and I feel that I achieved this.  Preparing for the wedding helped me do a lot of things to show myself love.  I enjoyed a lot of pre-wedding pampering, including massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures.  I realized how great it felt to take time for myself and learned that it’s important to take care of myself in this way.  Recently, I’ve been working on being more aware of and in tune with my emotions.  I’ve been meditating frequently and set a goal for 2019 to meditate five times weekly.  I prefer the app Headspace for meditation.  I’m looking forward to continuing to practice self-care in 2019!

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and happy New Year!
